Recent improvement in the use of nanoparticles as vehicles for photodynamic therapy agent delivery.

Development of new therapeutic drug delivery systems is an area of significant research interest. Different types of nanoparticles that can be used for photodynamic therapy applications are presented: ceramic-based, metallic, biodegradable polymer-based and multifunctional nanoparticles that can associate imaging agents and targeting units. The latest results in terms of improvement of the photophysical properties will be also developed (biphotonic absorption and upconversion).
