Emulsions and foams encountered in oil sands bitumen processing.

Stable water-in-oil emulsions and foams are encountered in oil sand bitumen froth treatment processes. This paper summarized our investigation on emulsion formation and demulsification using chemical demulsifiers. The demulsification performance was correlated to chemical properties of demulsifiers. Foam formation in solvent recovery unit was also investigated and the factors caused foaming were identified.
