Surface forces in thin liquid films stabilized by polymeric surfactants.

The surface forces in microscopic foam films and O/W emulsion films from aqueous solutions of polymeric surfactants (PEO-PPO-PEO three block copolymers and hydrophobically modified inulin graft polymer) have been directly experimentally measured using the microinterferometric technique of Scheludko–Exerowa. The films are stabilized by DLVO surface forces at low electrolyte concentration and by steric forces of the type brush-to-brush and loop-to-loop interactions at higher electrolyte concentration.
